Category A1 Rules For Motorcyclists

Category a1 rules are for those who wish to ride small motorcycles. These motorcycles have cylinder capacity of up to 35kW. They cannot be derived directly from vehicles that have more than double their power.

Open category drone operations are split into three subcategories - A1 to A3. You can fly current drones with class C0 or C1 as part of the A1 subcategory (fly over people) until January 2024.

A1 applicants must have at least 16 years of experience riding two-wheeled vehicles. They must also complete compulsory basic training and have passed the theory test and practical test. In addition, they must possess an official medical certificate.

A1 license holders are able to use two-wheeled mopeds as they ensure that their capacity for cylinders is not greater than 125 cc, and their power-to-weight ratio is not greater than 0.1 kW/kg. They are also able to drive motorcycles with an optimum cylinder capacity of 125cc as well as trikes and quad bikes as well as quad-bikes.



The category A1 driving licence is designed to provide easier access to the next vehicle category, which allows holders to drive vehicles with a maximum mass of up 35 kW. The A1 and A2 categories are designed to assist you in becoming a safe and confident motorcyclist. A3

Drones that have the Class Identification Label C2 can be operated under subcategory A2 provided they meet the size requirements, and the remote pilot has passed a knowledge test. This exam is designed to allow remote pilots to test their knowledge of the operational and technical mitigations that address the additional risks associated with flying slightly bigger drones (class A2, less than 4kg mass) close to people. A successful passing of this exam will result in the awarding of a 'certificate of competence to fly in category A2'.

Due to the lack of certified drones in this category There are transitional arrangements that allow non-certified 'legacy drones to operate in categories A1 and A2 for a period of two years following the new EU regulations come into force. The drones of the past cannot be flown over people and must carry an A2 CofC.

To operate a drone in this category you must pass the regular online flyer ID test and then pass an additional theory exam. You must also prove that you have some practical knowledge about your drone, and then submit a written proof of competence. These requirements are similar to the driving licence model, where a person who first obtains the licence for a lower powerful vehicle category will be able to gain easier access to the higher category.

A4

The DOH is preparing specific guidelines for category A4. These guidelines will be consistent with other operations and will include details like the number of dressings that are changed per day. These guidelines will be presented to the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infections, (IATF-EID) and the DOH National Immunization Technical Advisory Group. The IATF-EID and DOH's National Technical Advisory Group on Immunization will review and approve the guidelines prior to being finalized.

In this category, drones that have a class identification label C0 and C1 are permitted to fly within a minimum distance of 50 metres from individuals who aren't involved. This is a low-risk category however, strict safety precautions are still required to minimize incidents. Drones that do not fall in either A1 or A2 must have passed an additional test of theoretical knowledge to operate in this subcategory.

This test is designed to measure your knowledge of the additional risks associated when flying drones are in close proximity to humans. The certificate of competence is awarded upon passing this test. The pilot must maintain a minimum distance of 30 metres between the aircraft and any uninvolved persons, or 5 metres when flying in slow-flight mode.

You will need to take some time to pass the theory test and then you have to pass the practical test. It is contingent on your age, abilities and progress in learning. But, at least 12 lessons lasting 90 minutes are required to be completed.

In these classes, you will familiarize yourself with your vehicle and traffic laws. You will also learn valuable tips on how to operate your vehicle in difficult situations. You must also attend a certain number of special rides in addition to the mandatory driving lessons.

The new category E brings together the classes A1 (retail) A1 (retail) (financial services and professional services), B1 (offices) and A4 (restaurants/cafes) and B5 for takeaway hot food.
